…IF I can raise the money for the trip
Folks, this is the scariest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Asking point blank for money from my friends. I don’t like asking for help and I like asking for money even less.
Frankly, seriously, and without all my usual drama and shenanigans…
I’m sitting here in front of my computer with this awful queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach with one thought running through my mind: What if everyone says “no”?
Urk! Eeek! I think my blood pressure just spiked. Ok, ok, deep breaths… …deeeeeeep breaths.
Here’s the essential info:
- I’ve won a spot on the USA DanceSport Team (Yay!)
.. - In Sept 2013 the First World DanceSport Games will be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. (Yay!)
.. - These games are a milepost “proof of concept” event where the IOC will be observing to determine if Dance will be added to the Olympic Games. (Yay!)
.. - I am currently unemployed and can not afford the trip on my own. (bummer)
.. - I have started a “crowdfunding” page on Indiegogo to raise the money so I can attend this once-in-a-lifetime event. (YAY!!!)
With your help, I will be able to participate in an event operated under the purview of the International Olympic Committee with all the trappings of the Olympic Games.
I am asking for Two Actions from every single one of the 1,000+ readers who follow this blog and connect with me on social media:
—————————————————————-
REQUEST #1: Share my story…
…the more people who know about this, the better (share it on every social network to which you belong)
—————————————————————-
REQUEST #2: Make a donation…
…even a small one will help (and there are rewards for different pledge amounts starting at $1 and going up to $10k)
—————————————————————-
#1 — Share my story with everyone you know!
- There are a bunch of share buttons at the bottom of this blog post.
- Please click as many as you belong to.
- Share my YouTube Video for the Project. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou1Ulm-tyXM
- Share the direct link to the fundraising page: (http://igg.me/at/DanceSportGames)
Send up smoke signals, pound it out on drums. Use shoe polish and write it on your car windows! Use blue paint and paint it on your chest! Just SHARE!
No.2 Give as much as you can comfortably afford to give
There are REWARDS!
The more you give, the more cool stuff you get!
The way crowdfunding works is much the same way NPR, National Public Radio and PBS, the Public Broadcast System, do their funding: A lot of people chip in small amounts and they add up to a BIG amount.
In that spirit… let me pretend to be one of those announcers on the pledge drives… *grin*
Don’t wait. Do it today! The amount needed is tiny for each person when divided among a lot of people… think of it this way: Help me “Go for Gold” and I’ll be helping you on your diet! Think of all the calories I’ll be protecting you from. Just give up any of these and you Loose weight AND help me “Go for Gold!”
- $5 is a greasy combo meal
- $5 is a fancy coffee at Starbucks
- $5 is one beer at a night club
- $10 is a cheap pizza
- $20 is a good pizza
- $50 is a round of drinks with friends
- $80 is a four course meal somewhere that doesn’t understand “cooking without butter”
Why do I suddenly feel as if I’m working for NPR or PBS? (both of which are awesome BTW!) Going to these Games means a lot to me and the only way I can go is with your help. (Full story on the Indiegogo page)
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Don’t forget to…
DONATE & SHARE!
I can’t exaggerate how much this means to me. I’ve had a lot of awful things happen over the past year and a half. It would be nice to have something amazing happen too.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
See ya on the dance floor! — I’m off to the studio to practice!
